Student Scholarships
Two scholarships – the FNEI scholarship and Metcalfe scholarship – are currently open and accepting applications. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2025. Learn more about them below.
What is the 2025 FNEI Scholarships Program?
The Foundation for New Education Initiatives will award four (4) $12,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from traditional, non-charter high schools in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS).
Scholarships will be given based on strong academic performance, demonstration of leadership and potential to achieve career goals.
Who is eligible to apply to the FNEI Scholarship?
High school seniors who have attended a M-DCPS school all four years of high school. The applicant must have a 3.5 unweighted GPA and plan to attend a college or university and pursue a degree at an accredited post-secondary institution.
How will the funds be distributed?
The FNEI Scholarship is in the amount of $12,000 payable through eight installments of $1,500 a semester after providing proof of full-time enrollment in an accredited college or university and a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
The award monies will be paid directly to the student for educational expenses.
Who is eligible to apply for the Metcalfe Scholarship?
Children of M-DCPS AFSCME employees who have a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA and plan to attend a college, university or M-DCPS Adult/Technical college.
How much is awarded?
The Metcalfe Scholarship is $8,000 payable through eight installments of $1,000 a semester after providing proof or enrollment and cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Both the FNEI Scholarship application and Metcalfe Scholarship application application must be completed and sent via email to info@fneigives.org on or before June 1, 2025. Please include the name of the scholarship you’re applying to and your name in the subject line. No late or incomplete applications will be accepted.

FNEI scholarships made possible by Cigna. More than $270,000 in scholarships have been awarded to M-DCPS students since 2020.
High school seniors planning to attend college have the opportunity to apply for the prestigious FNEI Scholarship. This competitive award recognized one outstanding senior from eligible Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
In the 2024-2025 school year, FNEI proudly awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to deserving students, empowering them to pursue their educational goals and dreams.
